The Government of Belize has tabled a Bill to support digital Government efforts. Per a local news source, the proposed law – the Digital Government Bill, 2022 – is being introduced:

tо еѕtаblіѕh thе Е-Gоvеrnаnсе аnd Dіgіtаlіzаtіоn Dераrtmеnt аnd рrоvіdе fоr іtѕ роwеrѕ, dutіеѕ аnd funсtіоnѕ; tо рrоmоtе аnd rеgulаtе thе рrоvіѕіоn оf еlесtrоnіс gоvеrnmеnt (е-gоvеrnmеnt) ѕеrvісеѕ; аnd tо еnhаnсе ѕеrvісе dеlіvеrу, сіtіzеn’ѕ ассеѕѕ, аnd thе еffісіеnсу аnd еffесtіvеnеѕѕ оf gоvеrnmеnt аdmіnіѕtrаtіvе рrосеdurеѕ.

The tabled law is consonant with a recent recommendation in Belize’s National Digital Agenda requiring an “enabling legal and policy framework through a Digital Law to empower the E governance and Digitalization Unit as the champion and coordinator of digital transformation.”
